A snake too far?
By Neil from Northern Ireland , 04 Apr 2006[Highly rated reviewer]
Having long been a huge fan of Metal Gear Solid: Tactical Espionage Action - A landmark game in my opinion, I was bowled over by it's sequels MGS2: Sons of Liberty and MGS2: Substance. They offered a huge new range of features from their predecessor - even if the storyline got a little too abstract and weird later on. If you have been eagerly expecting a similar quantum leap in gaming from MGS3, you may be a little disappointed.
The latest incarnation, Snake Eater takes you back in time to the cold war, early on in Snake's FOXHOUND career. The opening credits are spectacular and a beauty to behold, and the gameplay is definitely up there with MGS2. The controls are similar to MGS2, if you're like me you will still be pressing x to select when you need to press o and triangle to go back when you need to press x. Bar this minor irritation the controls are straightforward and responsive.
The most significant problem I have with MGS3 is that there isn't enough to make me want to keep playing as in previous incarnations. Had MGS2 not been concieved I would have awarded this the full 5 stars. As it is though, I'm left with the 'I've seen it all before' feeling which is reflected by my rating.
Despite this I reckon it's worth renting for curiosity's sake and if you are new to the Metal Gear series you're bound to love it.- Was this review helpful to you?

(9)Greate game
By Danzo227 (1 review) , 20 Jul 2011A must have for any mgs fan. The game has a lot of replay value as you find more creative ways of sneaking or shooting your way through the level as well as a horde of Easter eggs and other goodies. It also has a fantastic story just like all mgs games. The game has a MASSIVE set of guns and gadgets that add new and interesting ways to play, 2 good examples would be: a pill that tricks the enemy into thinking your dead and a silenced pistol that sends the enemy to sleep.- Was this review helpful to you?

Epic jungle adventure, best MGS yet?
By Megatron (7 reviews) from Glasgow , 07 Jan 2011Do not be put off by the slow start as Snake Eater really heats up quickly once you are an hour or so in. Before you know it you will be on the biggest (in scale) journey so far in the Metal Gear series. Set in the 60s you will uncover the story behind the first games (thankfully is a lot more straightforward to follow than the previous two!) and with great character development and some excellent boss battles, you will have a great time with your stealthy and ass kicking ways!
At about 20 hours in total, Snake Eater has a slightly different playing style than the first two (Jungle rather than Urban) but in my opinion this game is the most enjoyable to date.- Was this review helpful to you?
