Action film based on the 1980s TV drama, focusing on the private and professional lives of detectives Crockett and Tubbs.

    [Highly rated reviewer]

This is a film version of the popular TV series of the same name. For me, this was one of the worst tv to film movies ever made and that inc, Starsky & Hutch. The acting was ok, but the script was so poor, even a fish and chip vendor wouldn't use it to put his grub in. It has short dialogue, shaky camera work and a dark moody atmosphere, all very wrong wrong wrong. Do yourself a favour and re-watch the TV series, even Don Johnsons acting was better than this.

Ignore the bad reviews. This is one of Michael Mann's best works to date. Really enjoyed the scenes filmed in South America: off-the-map locations such as Ciudad del Este. Classic Michael Mann attention to detail. Great soundtrack as well.

    Enjoy

I can tolerate bad films but this one is AWFUL! I had to turn it off after about 30 mins as I had no idea what was going on. I also got really fed up with the shaky camera work and just couldn't relate to the characters at all...which is very dissapointing considering how good Colin Farrell and Jamie Foxx are in other films

AS A HUGE FAN of Director MICHAEL MANN (MANHUNTER, COLLATERAL, HEAT, THE INSIDER), I must admit that I am disappointed with MIAMI VICE. This is, in my view, MANN's weakest film to date. There are several reasons for this: the plot, what there is of it, is wafer-thin, the dialogue is not spoken clearly, most of the main characters speak in strong Hispanic accents making it difficult to understand what they're saying and, FARRELL and FOXX are great actors individually but together their characters just don't gel. The dialogue is sometimes obscure and there isn't that much action either. Apparently MANN was beset with legal problems trying to secure the rights to make the 80's TV show into this feature film - and it shows in the final result, culminating in MIAMI VICE being MANN's weakest film yet. Despite this - I will still give it a Good rating, because two things save this film. Those two things are 1). MANN's decision to shoot the film using digital film cameras. The result is a super sharp picture resolution. In the same way that no other director can shoot the colour green like TERRENCE MALICK, NOBODY CAN SHOOT A CITY NIGHTSCAPE LIKE MICHAEL MANN. Thanks to the cinematography on MIAMI VICE, the film looks amazing: cityscapes are bathed in neon blue light, and you can see lightning thunderstorms in absolute clarity. And 2). The film has a pumping good soundtrack: Moby, Mogwai, Klaus Badelt, Freaky Chakra...That's why I'm still giving Miami Vice a good review, because it is technically brilliant - and that's why it's a film I like to come back to. It's just a shame that the rest of the film doesn't meet the same standard. Fortunately though, Michael Mann would get his mojo back in his next film - the superb PUBLIC ENEMIES (2009).

Micahel Mann is usually awesome so it is Jamie Foxx & Colin Farrell so what happened here??? This is a mess! I'm just slightly too young to know the tv series but I heard it was awesome. This movie is really messy & it looks quite cheap & badly acted. I love hot Mr Farrell & Miami Vice had all the good ingredients but it didn't work.. It seems like they were trying to copy Bad Boys but this is not even close.

  • Charmless, pointless and starring Colin Farrell. Three great reasons not to watch...

NOTHING about this film makes it worth watching. Nothing. It is one of the worst movies I've ever watched. The TV show had an energy and a vibe that this sad excuse for entertainment can only dream of possessing. The two leads in the original had presence and charm. Jamie Foxx has presence and charm too but he must wonder why he bothered with this one. The plot, the dialogue - everything about it - is flat and wooden. As for Colin Farrell - he probably thinks it's a masterpiece of the genre but then again he is Colin Farrell - vastly overrated, and mostly by himself. He has the all the charm and style of a ferret with delusions of grandeur and this film turns into a vehicle for those delusions. Avoid.
