Remarkably charming and entertaining
By Paul Armstrong from Jarrow, South Tyneside , 31 Jan 2005[Highly rated reviewer]
Shorter than Michael's other travlogues, however in is no less witting and just as, if not more interesting and enjoyable. From Paris to Cuba, from Italy to Spain, Michael's journey in the footsteps on Ernest Hemingway will have you pining for foreign shores that you would have never considered visitng before. Five stars well deserved!!!!!- Was this review helpful to you?

(14)Really didn't capture me.
By Onlyests (57 reviews) , 20 Nov 2011I really got bored with this. I think they're more like something you should watch on the tele when you are having a biscuit in the afternoon. Not really something to rent and save for an evening at home.- Was this review helpful to you?

Good - but the book is better
By Abizern (2 reviews) , 24 Jul 2011Michael's books are usually better than his TV programmes. The accompanying book for this show tells the story of producing the series and fills out more detail of Hemingway's life, and some decent travel writing.- Was this review helpful to you?

Michael Palins onward travels.
By a customer from Milton Keynes , 15 Oct 2009As always with Michael Palin you have a feeling of travelling with him as his companion, this Hemingway set was no different and I would recommend it highly.
Mr Palin is as always, Fantastic!- Was this review helpful to you?

It's ok...
By a customer from West Sussex , 30 Jan 2009As I say it's OK, not in the same league as the excellent round the world in 80 days but still worth a watch if you like the Palin travel documentaries.- Was this review helpful to you?

Recommended, with reservations
By Bezman (82 reviews) from Glasgow , 26 Aug 2007The 4 episodes conspire to tell the story of Hemingway's life and give a flavour of that life.
Practically presupposing a reverence for E. Hemingway, the series follows the locations Hemingway travels through, showing some of the sights he may have seen, gleaning a few words from those that met him.
Whilst I certainly left with a better understanding of the type of man Hemingway was, I should also admit I knew almost nothing of the man before.
At turns enlightening and entertaining, the series will be enjoyed by anyone hoping to gain a basic knowledge of the man's life. Whilst certainly not comprehensive and not terribly enlightening about the locations visited, it's a good primer or flavour-enhancer.- Was this review helpful to you?
