Like the other entire travel documentaries Michael Palin has made, this series I found very enjoyable as he blends light humour with the excitement of exploring this planet from a different perspective you would normally find on a travel documentary. Using typical native transports for the area's he travels in, and in a delightful way submerges himself into their world. He keeps you entertained throughout the whole experience with insight on past and present events. He is one of the greatest travel documenters.
Wonderful, informative and enjoyable adventure of this modern Phileas Fogg
I think after seeing both Around the World in 80 Days and Himilaya I was expecting more from Sahara, however this wasn't to be the case. Even though there were only 4 episodes, it was slightly forgetable. I think it could either be due to each episode being 1 hour long, or perhaps because the documentary seemed the same (sand, sand, and more sand) followed by the ending being very rushed and Michael seemingly travelling about 600 miles in 5 minutes. Even so, worth a rent.

Brilliant for all the family, me and my Step Father watched all in one day!

The book is good, more facts, more experience and more travel orientated. The BBC doc is a bit showy and not as edgey and micheal does best to keep it light hearted but I think there is more truth in the book
Didn't enjoy this at all - he only spends about 30 mins in the desert itself the rest is swanning around major towns any one of us could go on holiday to - Avoid
What a Joy to watch. For the first time a series that explores the diverse character of the worlds most misunderstood continent, exploring the characters of the people and communities with out dwelling on the over reported issues of poverty and corruption.
