Fish-out-of-water comedy tailor-made to the relaxed British mannerisms of star Grant. He stars as Michael Felgate, a dapper art auctioneer, whose romance with a school teacher entangles him in the workings of her mob family. While her father (Caan) accepts Michael wholeheartedly, a misunderstanding results in Michael having to .. Read more

Made by Elizabeth Hurley and Hugh Grant's production company Simian Films this was a commercial success for the pair (now parted). Grant is sublimely ridiculous as an English auctioneer in New York, who learns that marrying sweetheart Jeanne Tripplehorn means getting spliced to the Mob. Tripplehorn's father, James Caan, is the local don and Grant quickly finds himself up to his neck in linguini as he fakes the identity of out-of-town mobster Mickey Blue Eyes. This is gently entertaining and a sure-fire crowd pleaser.
Intermittently amusing comedy of a clash between two cultures, though the mechanical contrivances of farce take over from the intended romantic comedy, and Grant's act as a floppy-haired bumbler is wearing a little thin.

This is definately not Hugh Grant at his best. It took me three attempts to make it through this one. Quite boring overall.
What a fabulous film. I have seen it about 4 times and it still makes me laugh. The script is brilliant and the delivery superb. A must see for a fun night.
For the Grant fans out there, this is a great film. Truly funny. Appealling to both sexes, and to all ages. Highly recommended.
If you fancy an easy going light comedy with a bit of romance - this is good! To please the action lover, the Mob features so that should keep the men amused!
Really enjoyable!
A parody of Godfather - you will find all the Vitos and Michaels, Frankies and Johnies in this movie :-)
Just an average film...but ain't Hugh Grant reaaaaaaaaallllyyyyy cute!

Slightly romantic...but not much funny. Plainly mocking Italian culture. Not every one of them is mafia, unless you start to stereotype everyone from Godfather. Overall, just an ok movie.
A bit dissapointed with this film, it started well but went a bit flat in the middle.Only for Hugh Grant fans
hugh grant fails to play a convincing heavy
Good film, some funy times if you like Hugh Grant you will enjoy this film
Well, this was an unexpectedly gawd-awful outing for Messers Grant (male lead) and Hurley (producer). The plot was fatuous and unbelievable. It had more holes in it than a ton of doughnuts. Worst of all was Jeanne Triplehorn, who's character was an unhappy cross of a harridan and a shrew. It is difficult to understand why any man would love, or wish to find himself in the unfortunate position of being married to her.
If the alternative is beating yourself over the head with a heavy lead weight, then by all means watch this film. If, on the other hand, you have the slightest opportunity of gleaning the merest modicum of amusement from some other avenue - then leg it!
The musical accompainment was delightful in parts though.
