Coupled with Mississippi Burning as Alan Parker's best directorial acheivement. If mental illness doesn't dissuade you from smoking hash then this'll probably put you off crossing any borders with it!

  • ONE OF THE BEST FILMS EVER MADE. Up there with "One Flew over the Cuckoo's nest".

made one year before I was born, this film has not dated as much as me:) I have watched it many times growing up and even recently and also read the book (it's NOT as good) and this story is always so gripping, tragic and infuriating. You will feel his anger, humiliation, rage and eagerness to go etc. You will also never ever want to cross borders with anything remotely illegal again. You will never do it in Turkey to boost. Brad davis is outstanding in this film and such a shame he died not long after I believe. The soundtrack is also a great piece of history, one of the best scores ever wriiten.

A good film to watch, plenty of action and enough to keep you going.

Worth a watch if you like prison/fighting films

Well shot, good performances.... and you can sort of see how Alan Parkers style developed, however, BIG MESSAGE- if you can't do the time, don't do the crime (especially smuggling lots of drugs the day after there is an international terrorism scare!).

i dont know what this film is trying to preach, but he deserved 100% everything he got -- he comes out to write a book so we can all feel sorry for for him -- load of nonsense -- he brought it all on himself.
