Based on the book by Stuart Samuels, MIDNIGHT MOVIES examines the phenomenal success of six films that went on to become cult sensations. While only six films might seem like a rather small piece of a broader picture, each were chosen for the dramatic impact they had and have stood the test of time by being popular today - NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD, EL TOPO, PINK FLAMINGOS, THE HARDER THEY FALL, ROCKY HORROR PICTURE SHOW and ERASERHEAD all come under the spotlight and their directors tell the story of how the independents forced Hollywood to sit up and listen.

Two full-length feature films: 'Night of the Living Dead' and 'Reefer Madness'...
Affectionate... Engagin... Perceptive
DISC 2 REVIEW - 'Night of the Living Dead' makes a virtue out of its low production values and the relatively poor quality film stock on which it is shot, and manages to transform what is, by today's standards, a fairly run-of-the-mill zombie flic into a raw and edgy drama that often feels closer to reportage than fiction. The anonymous cast and real locations add to the sense of reality, and as the body count rises, the palms start to sweat and you wish, wish, wish they'd just hammer another plank across that window and shore up the buckling doors...
N.B.This disc contains only the two films, 'Night of the Living Dead' and 'Reefer Madness'. Anyone looking for bonus commentaries or other material may be disappointed.
