The Paris of your dreams
By Zamy (552 reviews) from London , 20 Oct 2011[Highly rated reviewer]
With the opening shots of a touristy Paris I groaned inwardly at the prospect of Woody in travelogue mode. I soon realised that this was a little Woody joke at our expense. He has recently given us London (Match Point) and Barcelona (Vicky, Christina, Barcelona) so why not use Paris? The subsequent 90 minutes were a delight of time travel back to the Paris of the 1920s to meet such luminaries as Hemingway, Picasso, Bunuel and Dali. Not all these cameos work equally well. Never mind, the whole project is so imbued with delightful humour that we dont mind the odd creaky characterisation. Our esteemed director brings a classy intelligence to this tale and we get a suitably critical view of the behaviours of rich, right-wing Americans using Paris as a playground. No wonder Woody has actors queuing up to appear in his little fables; he gives them such great lines. Highly recommended.- Was this review helpful to you?

Sweet endings
By 663322 (37 reviews) , 15 May 2013About 10 minutes in the ending is predictable. It did not teach me fundamental life lessons or take me on a truly inspiring psychological journey. But it was a pleasure to watch unfolding events leading up to the inevitable.- Was this review helpful to you?

One big yawn
By mcm (16 reviews) from Motherwell , 04 May 2013[Highly rated reviewer]
oh big yawn. for all intents and purposes the lead character might as well be Woody Allen. Boring, tedious narrative, set with a mixup of characters only Woody Allen could think up. Typical Woody Allen self obsession. Give it a miss, unless you are looking for a cure for insomnia.- Was this review helpful to you?

Surprised and pleased
By a customer , 09 Apr 2013I'm not usually a fan of Woody Allen but I loved this film. It captures the romance and other-worldliness of Paris whilst also dissecting the wish we all have to be somewhere else, someone else.- Was this review helpful to you?
