Another episode from the popular ITV crime series starring John Nettles as Detective Inspector Tom Barnaby. This time around, DCI Barnaby has to investigate members of the local Magic Circle when an 'Iron Maiden' trick turns fatal. Instead of the spikes being retractable, they have been jammed solid, and, to make matters worse, coated with a rare poison from the South American Poison Dart Frog. With the village host to rival cults and black arts factions, Barnaby must first sort through the smoke and mirrors of false leads and trickery, before he can apprehend the murderer.

A great Midsomer with all kinds of witchcraft and humdrum country life.

Also, nice to see the background figure of WPC Gail Stephens recurring and adding a lighthearted element to investigations.
