Too realistic to be funny

Maybe it's because I'm not really a football fan, but this film didn't do much for me. Yes, there were jokes in it that were funny, but overall it seemed too similar to real life to really work. Mike Bassett comes across as an amalgam of every England manager since Venables & hence seems very predictable - nothing was surprising because we've seen it all before on the news. The documentary storytelling style is good, but this film lacks the sort of comedy it really needs to be a success.
