One of the most amazing films I've seen in a while - Sean Penn is excellent at Harvey Milk, and narrates the film as a speech he's filming into a tape recorder - 'to be used in the event of my assasination'. Milk captures this part of the gay / civil rights movement as a very intense period of time - I cried buckets, but its not really that type of film. As emotive as it is, there's plenty of humour, showing more as dashes of accomplished wit rather than laugh out loud funny - just the type I like. The film moves pretty quickly, Gay men are portrayed fairly, not like straight men but not a raging queens either, Harvey Milk is lovable, but also not saint. Great performances also from Josh Brolin and Emile Hirsch - I now want to go and watch their entire filmographies. Can't fault this film - with both its great use of stock footage with scenes shot in grainy, sun bleached styles of retro photography - I can't wait to go to San Francisco!
Fatherhood has turned Mexican star Diego Luna into a happy early riser - because he can't wait to wake up and play with his kid.
