AKA Shanghai Express

Sammo Hung's 1986 star filled and heavily plotted action comedy Eastern Western is a pleasure from start to finish.The slapstick style is a tribute to the crazy Hollywood movies of the thirties with an Asain twist. The action sequences are all first rate with a mix of well choreographed Kung Fu mixed in with some breathtaking stunts.

Sammo plays a small time con man trying to get the Shanghai Express to stop at his little town to improve business for the locals. Unknown to him there are Gangsters on board plus some Japanese trying to steal some National Treasures. It is, however Yuen Biao who gets to carry the film along with Sammo as the new law in town.

Yuen gets to do a cartwheel off a three story building on fire, lands on his feet and walks away, all in one continuous shot. Incredible! This is just one almost throw away moment in a film that has so much going on you need to view it more than once just to take it all in.

This is another jewel in Sammo's extremely sparkling crown. Not to be missed if you are a fan of this genre.

The action set pieces are all fist rate with a mix of well choreographed Kung Fu action mixed with some breathtaking stunts.

Unknown to him there are gangsters on board, plus a gang of bandits have also got their sights on the train. It is however, Yuen Biao who gets to carry the film with Sammo as the new law in town.

Also amongst the cast are Eric Tsang, Rosamund Kwan, Richard Norton, Cynthia Rothrock, Hwang Jang Lee and regular fighting villian in Hong Kong action films, Dick Wei. Dick's fight with Yuen Biao in the amazing finale is one of the best ever filmed. This is truely an international cast.

This is another jewel in Sammo Hung's extremely sparkling crown. This is another gem, not to be missed.
