    good british movie

went to see this at the cinema with my 9 year old son, he really enjoyed it, although it was quite deep and a bit scary in parts. As for the reference in the reviews of slight drug taking it really just looks like a woman having a cigarette a child would not even notice but in all a excellent film. I would not of taken a child younger than 8 but recommend it to anyone else

    This time next year...

A change of pace for Danny Boyle and a welcome one too. Shallow Grave, Trainspotting, 28 Days Later and now this, a heart warming tale about two children who find a case full of money.

The two children give fine performances and hold the film together throughout. It's not a perfect film of course, the story arcs stray off course from time to time and the villian of the piece, returning to claim his stolen money, gets in the way of what is essentially a traditional, quirky, British family drama. It's very funny at times too. All about growing up, faith, hope and that kind of thing. There are some really touching moments to be shared even if some of the fantasy pieces don't work as well as they should have done.

Still, Millions is a movie almost worth its weight in gold and proves that Danny Boyle is a talented director indeed.

    Powerful and Wonderful

I've just watch this at the cinema with my kids. They have insisted that I order the DVD.

Two boys who have undergone trauma and change receive and answer to their prayers, the chance ot fix everything. Only one of them wants to fix his families lack of money and status and the other wants to fix poverty. The resolution of this leads the viewer through laughter, fear and tears.

The acting is wonderful, the two boys are superb, worth watching for if nothing else. James Nesbitt is as usual, but I'm a fan so I don't mind. The diretion creates some great pictures.

The film is quirky at times, with its embodied forms of plaster saints, Peter as a (mildly) swearing Geordie, Clare of Assisi as a smoker, for example. It's not one to be watched to clinically, but let it sweep through you and over you and you'll love it.

A disappointing ending to a good story!

A good story but the film does seem to go on for ever, and was hard to follow in places. The ending is also very disappointing. I would recomend this film for a rainy day.

    superb..................

this dvd is superb. Two boys, who are still grieving at the death of their mother, find themselves - the unwitting benefactors, of a bag of bank robbery money, in the week before the United Kingdom switches its official currency to the Euro. What are they going to do? Both brothers -Anthony and Damian Cunningham have vastly different ideas, for spending the stash, and they also have to deal not only with the money's original thief, but with the attentions of a woman, who seems to be stealing their widowed father.

The film is full of eccentricity and quirkiness, seven year old Damian (played by Alex Etel) has private conversations with a collection of eclectic religious saints--and a spirited way of juggling both the scary realities and fanciful imaginings of young minds.

Initially Anthony and Damian response to their unexpected fortune is a Robin Hood-esque spree of charity giving. the tension builds, with the boys' father (played by James Nesbitt), the police and a menacing figure becoming aware of the cash. It’s a fun film with no pretense, and well worth watching.

    Trainspotting it ain't...

...but for touching family entertainment you won't go far wrong with 'Millions'. Having enough Boyle-esque quirky moments to retain the interests of those not drawn in by cute child actors, this is a thoughtful essay on the experience of loss. Not half as good as some reviewers here would like you to think, but certainly worth a look; along with the sadness there are laughs and a certain joy that draws you in. Also nice to see Daisy Donovan in a (reasonably) straight role.

    Best of British

This was another fine example of British Cinema. It was a good, entertaining family film. The storyline did had one or two gaps, but providing you are watching this film for its entrtainment value, and are not trying to be a pretentious film critic, you will find it hard not to enjoy it.

    laughs and tears

This film will tug at your heart-strings, but it will give you some laughs as well. The lad who plays Damian in the film has such a sweet face that he manages to be really convincing as a boy who admires the Saints and Martyrs and knows all their stories and dob etc., instead of being led astray by the money he tries to find ways to enrich the lives of others around him. Both youngsters are brilliant, and the neighbourhood police officer is a really funny character in the film. The end scenes with Damian and his Mum are lovely and will make the sentimentally challenged among you shed a tear or two. Lovely stuff.

    Lovely film

This is a lovely film with great perfomances by some very talented actors. The idea for the film is fantastic - but underdeveloped. The script could have been made so much stronger with just a little more work on it. It is beautifully filmed and it's a wonderfully quirky movie. I recommend it.

    Good but could be better..

I very nearly gave this a 4 star rating but felt that it in the end deserved a 3.

It is about 2 boys who come across a bag of money which is near to the £200,000 mark. The bag of money falls from the sky which leads Damian into thinking its from God but there's a much simpler explanation, a robbery. They have one week in which they can do what they want with it before the UK changes to the euro. Damian looks to give it to those less fortunate than him while Anthony looks to the money as something he needs to spend on only himself.

I gave it a 3 star because it is a very good film, however, I thought that the story could be improved much more and the story itself was hard to follow when it didn't really need to be difficult. Very funny and enjoyable film overall.

    Nothing to shout about.

Okay, what can I say? I read a great deal of the reviews on here and thought I would give it a go. To be honest I couldn't see what all the fuss was about. It is okay, don't get me wrong the acting is fine, the young boy does an excellent job but it just lacks something. I kept waiting, hoping I would get into the story, but I just didn't. I couldn't relate to anyone in it. The halucinations the boy has are just a little odd, and I don't see the relavence. Sorry but it obviously just isn't my sort of film.
