Guillermo Del Toro is arguably the best director working in the world at the moment and

Pan's Labyrinth is certainly one of the films of the century so far.

Mimic is his first English language film and whilst it doesn't get close to any of his 3 Spanish films (Cronos and Devil's Backbone being the other two), it is certainly a solid film and a cut above most other Hollywood stuff.

  • silly film.

I like B films when good, and there are many excellent 'being chased by a mutant monster' films out there. I hate leaving a negative review, but don't want anyone else to waste their time watching this. It didn't even have the redemption of making you jump with shock at any point.

enjoyed this film even though most of it was shot in the dark,i think this added to the effects that were used and i will soon be watching mimic2! the film was good enough to deserve a sequel which i think will be slightly better!

  • This is not the film Del Toro wanted to make

    Rated - 2.5 stars

This film is rather underwhelming for Del Toro but that stems more from studio interference than the director. This version of the movie (there is now a directors cut out there which I have yet to see) is a rather hokey monster movie that takes itself far too seriously considering is rather naff subject matter (giant roaches dressed as hobos) and sub par performances. I would have much preferred a goofier b-movie take (the Relic springs to mind). The movie really only just scrapes by as passable and Id be hard pressed to sit through it again (this was my second viewing after its original release)

  • Unmissable, classic 90's action.

An absolute classic 90's horror/action movie. Not to be missed.

Just a shame the 2 sequels were not as great.

  • A BIG disappointment

I could only get through 50 minutes of this film and even then it was a struggle to watch that much of it. Most if this film is shot in semi-darkness which is intensely IRRITATING. People seem to have an aversion to switching lights on and prefer to walk around dark rooms with a flashlight. Even disecting a specimen is done in a totally dark room with just 2 lamps on the subject. Crazy. Couldn't tolerate any more of this awful film.
