I must have been watching a different episode from the rest of you

Back in 1985, BBC and ITV had the great idea of showing new and extended episodes of their two best shows: Only Fools and Horses and Minder opposite each other, at the same time over Christmas. I had no video so spent the first 30 mins switching back and forwards between them, 'til I realised that was a good way to miss out on them both. I stuck with OFAH , and seeing this Minder show for the first time since, makes me realise that was the right decision - it is AWFUL! Right from the start it dawned on me that something is wrong - the well loved Minder theme tune replaced with music that would have been an embarrassment to an On The Buses film, and it keeps coming back... Then we have the plot - numerous characters after the secret resting place of a gangsters stolen dosh, a partial Swiss bank a/c number that his daughter unknowingly has , she's on the train with Chishom who's helping Interpol, Arthur and Terry. Now the first half hour is not too bad, Chisholm provides some moments of amusement, but after that the confines of filming every scene in a train corridor or cramped compartment hinder the plot no end. A good cast is wasted , and everybody seems to going through the motions, there's a stupid sub-plot about a US hitman out to kill Arthur because he resembles an American gangster - oh yes, the old 'mistaken identity' routine, the last refuge of the hard of thinking, how lazy an idea is that? It's a horrible mess, a huge disappointment.
