It's all about Tamara RojoBy a customer , 10 Jun 2011
[Highly rated reviewer]I am in complete agreement with the previous reviewer in that whilst La Bayadere is not one the most engaging of ballets, it is worth watching just to see the compelling near-perfection of Tamara Rojo! La Bayadere just showcases the sensual lyricism of her dancing, and this elevates the production to 4.5/5 stars. It is always a pleasure to watch Carlos Acosta, but in this ballet Tamara is definitely the star.
wonderful balletBy gerry72 (1 review) , 10 Jul 2012the ballet itself is great, lot of movement, good music and fabulous dancers. but what is wrong with blu-ray. every blu-ray disk seems to freeze or lose sync, despite having bought the latest blu-ray player. I am giving up! the difference is only marginal so why bother, stick to plain old dvd's they are just as good. I have now got la bayedere as a dvd and its as good or better than the blu-ray version
A pleasant surpriseBy a customer , 23 Nov 2011I had not seen a performance before and was very pleasantly surprised. After what I thought was a slow introduction, it gets better. I was surprised that I enjoyed the corps de ballet section so much - beautifully danced.
The production and sheer sumptuous sets really help. Look out for the gold male dancer - a wonderful performance. All the principals are excellent as you would expect and the music, though not of Tchaikovsky's standard, is very tuneful.
A good production of The Temple DancerBy risky (102 reviews) from Ashby de la zouch , 12 Aug 2011Although not the greatest of ballets. this production does it full justice. The costumes and back cloth scenery are excellent as are the dancers, particularly the females. Minkus'' music is not the finest but is pleasant enough, and performed to perfection here.Unfortunately it is spoilt to some extent by the audience who consider their duty to over applaud and thereby spoil the music. This adds considerably to the time taken by the ballet. I do also think the posture of some of the dancers shows that it is expected. Do not let this put you off what a good night's viewing.

Tamara Rojo is outstandingBy WestCountry (68 reviews) from Yeovil , 17 Mar 2011I am not really a fan of La Bayadere as there seems to me to be far too much mime and boring postures.
However Tamara Rojo really stars in this ballet with wonderful suppleness, interpretation and dancing - and she can act rather than mime. Without her, this would just have been another competent routine production - but she lifts this production from 2.5 stars to 4 stars
