Funny , gritty, realistic comedy/thriller about life in a racially divided working-class area of Leeds. Down to earth, pulls no punches and carries a reasonable story-line if a bit exaggerrated. If you like Shameless I think you'll enjoy it.
We basically watched this because it was previewed on the Shameless Season 3 disc. The clip was funny and seemed in keeping with the humour we love in Shameless. But we were wrong. This film is just plain sad. I'm not sure who it tries to offend the most, which area of society or which ethnic background gets portrayed worst. Someone will probably tell me that the film was meant to convey some sort of message, that we can all find some sort of solidarity whatever our background. If that's the case then I think it fails - big time. Sad, nasty, ill-conceived and disappointing.
Please don't watch this, i had to switch it off half way through and it isn't often i do that with any film! i sat through PSYCHO and THIRTEEN! but this just took the micheal. . . i beg of you, don't even bother!
This is one of the best films I have seen in ages. The plot was a bit far fetched, but the acting was fantastic, especially from the younger actors. I have seen a fair number of comedies recently, but this is the one that made me laugh out loud!
I rented this DVD based on the previous reviews and I was SO disappointed.
My husband and I settled down to watch it, hoping for something along the "East is East" theme....but it's nowhere near.
The story line is non existent, the humour lacks...err....humour, and the acting is awful.
If you suffer insomnia, rent this, if not STAY WELL CLEAR!!!!

From the director of Principles of Lust comes something almost as bad. Trite (Woolcock's from Kent) cobblers masquerading as urban cinema as Woolcock brings together groups of Asian's and working class whites (who learn to love each other really) in a celebration of breaking things and having eggs thrown at your window (what a hoot?). An insult to the intelligence and surely the final nail in Woolcocks career.
Watched this by accident really on a flight to America. Absolutely loved it. Scenes that make you laugh out loud. You could tell who else was watching it on the plane as well!

An hour and a half of grating accents really got to me! I couldn't wait to switch off this uneventful excuse for a movie, even though I kept waiting for something to happen....it never did. AVOID!
Ignore the comments from the southerner below, the accents are just accents from Leeds.
Funny film that makes some serious points without labouring it.
Ask for your money back - this fim explains why the British Film Industry is in a mess.
