If you ain't seen this movie, you should rent it now. Thrillers don't come any better than this. I'm not sure who to thank for makin this a great movie, Stephen King for writing the book, Rob Reiner for directing it or Kathy Bates for playing a nutter, but who ever, this is a truly scary movie. It's dosen't stop from beginning to end, and kathy Bates is really scary. She deserved her oscar for this performance and James Caan is on top form as well. In fact stop reading this and rent it now.

This film is an amazing must see classic, but it is over 20 years old so I don't see why you have to pay £2. 49 to watch it online.

  • Slightly disappointed - Not as good as the book!

I have to say, I was slightly disappointed with this film. Having read the book, I had high hopes for the movie, which was supposed to be amazing, too, but I don't think the film did the book justice.

Kathy Bates was great, but her character in the film was nowhere near as scary as Annie was in the book. I think the film missed out a lot of Annie's actions which showed Paul (and the reader) just how crazy she really was, and how much trouble he was in, being imprisoned in her house. The film changed a lot of minor details, which I thought it was completely pointless to change, as well as quite a few major details, which didn't do the plot any favours. For example, the book Paul wrote just before the accident was called 'Fast Cars', but in the film in was untitled - but what's the point in changing that? Also, I think the little sub-plot with the sheriff and his wife was pointless, and there was no such story added in the book.

Overall, it is a very good film, and if I hadn't read the book before, I think I would have enjoyed it a lot more than I did. But I think that, because the film was based on a great book, there was no reason to change things, and they should have stuck to the plot of the book a lot more than they did.

If you enjoyed the film, you should definitely read the book, as it is much better, and much more scary.

Fantastic film that has you on the edge of your seat all the way through. I would watch this again. I borrowed this film from a friend. It was brilliant.

This is a love story, at it's very core. Devotion, obsession, companionship.. The lonely and isolated Annie Wilkes is a devoted fan of Misery, a character from a book. Wilkes becomes romantically obsessed with the mind Of Sheldon, the god who created a paper universe for Misery. Romance turns to violent obsession when she discovers the author has other plans for Misery. The scenery and isolation is wondrously atmospheric. Some of the close up camera shots during the suspenseful scenes really do pull you in. Bates is fantastic in this role.
