Distinctly average, not a lot happened. Minimum of 20 words. I have nothing left to say! It was rather dull

This is a beautiful if poignant film........with humour in parts! If you are a romantic at heart you will love this film..........and shed a few tears! The sets are stunning and I would suggest it is based to some extent on Jane Austen's life.................enjoy!

  • Austen is a non-starter

Jane Austen is painted into a corner in this movie – a matchmaker who fails to find a match. I think that's the neat contrivance that they're aiming at. Unlike some of the other reviewers here I didn't find it that bad. But it wasn't that good either. Some pleasing acting here and there (though, inevitably, stereotyping creeps in) and nicely photographed. I couldn't really enage with any of the characters much. The mother seems overly hostile. Not sure why they made it really. Probably because anything Austen has a potentially large audience. You'll be better off watching your BBC Pride and Prejudice series again.

  • Excruciating, British film making at it’s worst!

To make one thing clear, this is not the psychological introspection of a famous character personal drama, as this movie is advertised.

Jane Austen is presented as approaching the crisis of middle-age, and trying to cope with it, by behaving like an irresponsible, kindergarten little girl. There is no logic line of action! Everything revolves around, what is portrayed as, spinster’s Austen fooling around. She haphazardly oscillates between a dumb child and a rude, yet clever sociopath. As for the other characters, hard as it may be to conceive it, they are even more shallow. Watch this movie only if you have some big sins to expiate...
