squinty strIkes again!By chimpsky (5 reviews) from Nottingham , 11 May 2007
[Highly rated reviewer]Well, i'm genuinely sorry to disagree with the rest of the reviewers here but...it's a shame to see rene zellweger again attempting to play a british woman with her voluminous acting range, i.e. squinting a lot, when there are many British actresses who could have offered much to the role ( Samantha Morton or Emily Watson to name a couple). then there's the historical omissions and skewed emphasis. Beatrix potter was a great woman: a natural scientist and conservationist. Not the sentimental, squinty, 'quirky' (you always get 'quirky 'with Zellweger) dweeb in this film. I dislike the emotional manipulation of filmic sentamentalism because the emotions rarely seem real, the basis of effective acting surely. I am myself a fan of Beatirx Potter's work and life and feel this film not worthy of her. Try the graphic novel 'One Bad Rat' by Bryan Talbot to see potter's life interwoven into a genuinely moving story.

Good film, random animationBy a customer , 16 Apr 2012I did enjoy Miss Potter...a lovely story, beautifully filmed, with a good cast, but I felt it was spoilt by random bits of animation that gave the impression of lunacy in Miss Potter. These random cartoon elements were, to me, completely disjointed from the plot - the most offending being the random pumpkin carriage pulled by bunnies which I found infuriatingly useless.
Cartoons aside, it is an enjoyable film which requires little attention. I won't be rushing to watch it again but it may be kept in reserve for a sleepy sunday afternoon in the future. The acting is good, the soundtrack and scenary is wonderfully British and enough happened to keep me interested.
My final criticism has to be the change in accent in the young farmer boy who has a very Lancastrian accent in his youth but then develops a strong Yorkshire twang when he reappears as an adult...even though they are in the Lake District in neither Lancashire nor Yorkshire!
An early feministBy a customer , 01 Mar 2012This was a delightful film suitable for family viewing. As an admirer of Beatrix Potter I was afraid the casting of the title role to an American was a dubious choice but having watched the film I thought Renee Zegweller's performance was extremely good.
Great filmBy a customer , 14 Feb 2012Great film, very impressed girly but not drawn out :) Worth watching. Bridget Jones accent again but that's not a bad thing.
