Poorly made, dull and uninspiring. For a far more vibrant and interesting view of modern art see The Shock Of The New.

Wow, how funny is Orson Welles? Pretending to look off into the distance longingly searching his soul for his inspired words when we all know he's drunk, has only turned up because his agent made him, he hasn't read the script and is reading from prompt cards (not true).

They try to cram in too much stuff into one film so your just given a brief moment with each artist but more time is spared for others. I don't think it was diabolical but it wasn't fantastic. A plus point was the a large amount of, perhaps not-often-seen, footage of the artists talking about themselves or mucking about which was quite nice and informative.

It's aged so don't expect anything amazing but it's a nice Sunday afternoon film if you have nothing else to do.

This film tries to deal with almost every important artist from 1900 to about 1970. As the film is only 90 minutes long no artist gets more than about 5 minutes attention, I was left with the impression that this is really just a role call of the most important artists of the 20th century. You do get to see some examples of their work and a brief description of what they were about, but don't expect any in depth analysis.
