Hugely hyped in its native India, this was Aditya Chopra's second feature after his smash debut, Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge. Unsurprisingly, he opts to reunite that film's stars and pit them against each other in another titanic battle of generational wills. Veteran superstar Amitabh Bachchan confirms he's made the transition from action hero with a glaring display as the unbending head of a prestigious college who vents his wrath on music teacher Shah Rukh Khan, after he dares not only to encourage six of his amorous students to pair off, but also to make eyes at Bachchan's daughter, Aishwarya Rai.
This movie was really good, I enjoyed it a lot. The actors are phenomenal and the story was very addictive. Its beautifully written as well, heart warming and heartbreaking. The movie is about young love and it centres around three girls and three guys who fall in love. They have to overcome the challenges that love puts in front of them. They are also divided; one teacher tells them to follow their heart, while the other teacher does the exact opposite. Its a very moving movie & the soundtrack is amazing..... It stars Shah Rukh Khan & Amitabh Bachman, two awesome awesome Hindi Actors.
In comparison to a Hollywood movie, Mohabbatein would score 5 stars but, unfortunately, as far as Bollywood films go it barely merits a single star. This is the only Bollywood movie I have watched so far that I have really found boring, my attention has drifted and actually wished some scenes would speed up or end as at points it really, really drags. The young actors do a decent job, apart from Uday Chopra who is forced, desperate and very amateur. Infact, you would be excused for thinking the whole four hours was a homage to his wonderfully bulked body which is shown off from every angle at every opportunity. Another thing which is a crime to watch is the fake playing of the instruments - it will make you cringe! The music is pleasant but uneventful and does not create a lasting emotional impact any longer than the actual song. The only saving grace is, of course, Shah Rukh Khan who deserves the only star all to himself as he carries the whole thing all by himself. He breathes life into the story, injects energy, enthusiasm, passion, spirituality and raw and honest emotion into the proceedings.
