outstanding acting

I first watched this series on television and was totally hooked from the first 10 minutes. It portrays just how hard it was for women to be accepted by society no matter what she was. It follows the highs and lows of moll flanders as she becomes rich then loses it all, she is a sucker for a good looking man and sometimes it is the wrong move as you will find out whilst watching. please enjoy it just like i did i cant wait to watch it again and again.- Was this review helpful to you?

By RosyLee (9 reviews) , 30 Aug 2012I have seen this many times and never tired of it. Alex Kingston is superb. It shows the lot of women at the time and just how unequal society could possibly get. Moll lives by her wits and almost dies by them. The extra features on the DVD, showing the very modest budget, were very interesting too.- Was this review helpful to you?

Gathers Momentum after Laboured Start
By Seedyvee (183 reviews) from Grantham , 26 Aug 2012This was quite a fair dramatization of Daniel Defoe's novel but from what I remember from the book the ending has been modified for a modern audience, I suppose, where the introduction of a broad-minded and understanding clergyman has been omitted. The theme of redemption comes over much more emphatically in the book however.
Alex Kingston was well-chosen for likeable character of Moll and after a rather laboured start with rather stiff acting from other actors the film gained momentum.
Do read the book which is tremendously uplifting and compassionate, actually modernistic, in its sensitive treatment of crime and social delinquancy.- Was this review helpful to you?

Television at it best!
By film-man (16 reviews) , 16 Sep 2011A great romp through Daniel Defoe - Alex Kingston is outstanding as the amoral Moll - a real survivor - and the rest of the cast provide a some marvellous cameos, helped in no small way by superb lighting and camera work and Jim Parker's intriguing music score. Dr Who move over

But I do wonder what would happen if Dr Who met Moll Flanders instead of Dr Song!!
