LOVEFiLM Review
-
By Tom Charity from LOVEFiLM
Brad Pitt delivers one of his best performances, in this true story that's less about baseball and more about values and self-worth.

Riveting, and yes Brad Pitt can act after all.
By Onlylexus (119 reviews) from Chesterfield , 30 Jan 2012[Highly rated reviewer]
I know you've see a plethara of baseball movies over the years, but I can assure you... not like this one! Ok it has a little of that American clecheid sentimentality that most of them have, but the thing is Moneyball hits you from a different aspect altogether. The plot grabs your attention because of the intelligence and mathamatics used in how to bring together a winning base ball team. The idea that any given player at any given time can perform statistically better against another given player depending on the average performance through a season is clever indeed. Computer power is used to calculate all the given factors of a player, his runs, where and how he might strike the baseball; Where a player or a fielder stands, or how many balls are dropped and in what circumstances, it boggled my mind and because of that I was so very interested. Brad Pitt produced this film and took the main role, I was very impressed with his acting in this, as usually I haven't seen any role he's taken that called for genuine character acting, but this role gave him that opportunity in bucket loads. Brilliant film and even if you don't like sport, you may like this one, I did. Top marks!- Was this review helpful to you?

Good for baseball fans, I preferred the Undefeated
By Hellohulk (22 reviews) from Leicester , 05 May 2013This is an enjoyable film to watch and Brad Pitt (for once) puts in a decent performance. However, its primary appeal is likely to be to baseball fans who are familiar with the sport's jargon. Also, the main focus is on Pitt's character, which means that we find out very little about the team members and coaching staff. I also found that the film for most of its duration lacked emotional or dramatic depth. While a necessary part of the film, I found the mathematical 'equations' uninteresting. I personally found Moneyball to be less compelling than the Academy Award winning The Undefeated of 2010/2011, a similar but superior documentary which follows the real-life turnaround of a struggling high school American football team by Coach Bill Courtney. The Undefeated works better as a drama and provides more insights into the lead characters. I also found it to be more emotionally engaging. Also, The Undefeated can be enjoyed by viewers, whether or not they are fans of American football. It should not be confused with the film of the same name starring Mark Levin.- Was this review helpful to you?

For baseball fans
By a customer , 04 Apr 2013This is a good movie. Brad Pitt is also good, although I have a problem with any movie of his as I CANNOT forget I am watching Brad Pitt. My main problem with this movie was that I don't know anything about baseball and you really really need to, to fully enjoy this film. I was confused frequently due to my ignorance of the game.- Was this review helpful to you?

Like cheeseburgers? You'll love it....
By a customer , 26 Mar 2013Without a shadow of a doubt the most boring film I have ever seen. Don't bother unless you really, really, really like baseball.- Was this review helpful to you?
