As funny as ever but a little more serious.

After 3 fantastic series I am amazed at how well series 4 has turned out. Monk continues to be witty, charming, clever, entertaining, and laugh out loud funny.

But things are slowing down a little. Monk's mental illnesses have always been portrayed in a light hearted, entertaining manner which mearly hinted at the true hardship involved, occasionally showing how it affected his ability to work. But the main focus was always the case in hand. Here there are a few moments that took his OCDs and phobia's more seriously, showing a more depressing side to Monk which actually greatly improved the series. They still manage to make fun of it all in a mostly non offensive way, but it is a little harder to laugh at him without feeling a bit guilty.

The characters all remain fresh and likeable, each new episode provides a new mind boggling case, and the theme song still hasn't gotten old.

Highly recommended.
