Series 5 of Monk continues the trend of great acting, great direction, and fantastic writing.

As with series 4 Monk's OCDs are addressed much more head on, more as an actual mental illness than just a set of quirks that are fun to laugh at. There are many moments during this series when I found myself close to tears as I was so often heartbroken by his difficulties.

But whereas I considered this step towards the more serious a positive of series 4, I'm not so sure here. Yes, it does give the show much more depth, but I'm beginning to miss the days I could laugh out loud without feeling a little guilty.

Still a 5 star show but I'm not sure my rating will remain so high as time goes on. Mister Monk is definately heading towards a natural end for me.

This season is going too far and is more comedic to the point of a complete farce. If you are MOnk fan then you probably will be disappointed too. :-(

If you want to be entertained, this off beat series is ideal. Each 40 minute episode provides the neurotic ex cop Monk with a fresh challenge..............Superb viewing!! I am now on series five and cannot get enough of Mr Monk.

  • Not for me

Whilst I found the production values in this film quite high and worth one star, I feel I must be missing out on something in view of the high number of five-star ratings given this series. Perhaps I should have been nurtured on the foregoing series 1-4 but personally found the script too contrived and characters far from amusing. Strange - because I really appreciate American humour and presentation as a rule but not this time. So I cancelled the remainder of series 5 after sitting through one episode and a half on this disc. Most 'Monk' lovers will probably think I'm rather sad.
