A clear dip in quality, but worth watching none the less.

Watching 6 full series of Monk continuosly over the course of several weeks (roughly an episode a day) was bound to wear me down eventually. But with series 1 to 4 I found myself hooked right through and always eager for the next episode, by series 5 it was beginning to wane but remained a 5 star show. Now with series 6 I finally feel forced to deduct a star from my rating.

Though the performances throughout remain of a high standard the writing has begun to slip. There are a couple of slightly dull episodes in here and, though there are a couple of good ones, most of the others are only so-so. It's still clever and funny, just not as clever or funny as it was previously.

Any T.V. series, no matter how good, can only remain fresh for so long, and I can only hope that the quality either picks back up for the final 2 series I've yet to see, or winds down gently to a natural close.

If you're a fan of Monk then you'll do yourself no real harm with series 5, but there's certainly no reason to go out of your way to see it.
