Great Flashback!
By a customer from London, England , 18 Jan 2005[Highly rated reviewer]
If like me you remember this series from your early days it's a great blast from the past. Although it now looks quite dated it's still worth a watch. Good to rent but kind of glad I didn't buy!- Was this review helpful to you?

By a customer from Tiverton , 29 Oct 2009Monkey is the ultimate in retro kids' programmes. I was transported back to my childhood and found myself just as excited by them magic as I was then. What was wonderful was that the dated special effects had no effect on my 9 year old son: he was every bit as swept away by the eternal moral tale of good versus evil and the charm of monkey's wicked-goodness.- Was this review helpful to you?

Not as bad as I thought it would be
By RobboRobbo from KENT , 08 Sep 2005For a programme produced in an era when "taste" was what Spangles had, and "sophistication" meant knowing that Japan was not in China, Monkey had all the potential to be awful when seen through adult eyes.
But, surprisingly, it is not: this is a compeling drama, and fight scenes that consist of sound effects and lots of people randomly waving sticks about do nothing to detract from a good storyline, and interesting amusing characters.
All in all this is good drama, which my own children enjoyed (and started singing the theme song!).
Great stuff! So, join Tripitaka, pigsy, Monkey, and the . . er. . . the other one (Sandy, actually, which is an odd name for a water demon) on DVD - you know you want to!- Was this review helpful to you?
