Charlie (Jennifer Lopez) is looking for a nice guy who will appreciate her, as well as her myriad of interests and jobs. From walking dogs to painting to designing clothes to answering phones at a doctor's office, Charlie does it all. Keith (Michael Vartan) seems to fit the bill as a perfect match for her: he's charming, handsome, a successful doctor, and he is completely smitten with her. And now, he has proposed and wants to marry her. There's just one problem: his mother, Viola (Jane Fonda), is a nightmare. A legendary television journalist who has an on-air breakdown after being replaced by a much younger woman, Viola virtually lives for Keith, especially now that her career is apparently over. She doesn't think Charlie is good enough for her son, and she plans to do everything she can to break them up. Enlisting the help of her assistant, brutally honest Ruby (Wanda Sykes), Viola plots ways to drive Charlie crazy--and get her away from her son. She feigns illness, belittles her future daughter-in-law's jobs, and invites her son's old flame to visit at inopportune moments, among other things. But Viola underestimates Charlie, who isn't about to give up a happy future with Keith without a fight. Directed by Richard Luketic (LEGALLY BLONDE, WIN A DATE WITH TAD HAMILTON!), MONSTER-IN-LAW marks Fonda's return to the big screen following a 14-year absence. Elaine Stritch appears as Viola's own former monster-in-law.

I have to admit it, I put my hands in the air and admit that I walked into the cinema expecting the very worst from this film (come on, it is J-Lo after all) but I sat down and the film begin and I think I laughed pretty much from start to finish. Now, just before you think I may have been having a weak moment or something (I wasn't sure myself) I had a look around me and everyone else was in hysterics. Lots of Laugh out loud moments. J-Lo and J-Fo have superb chemistry on screen they work well together and their comedic timing is fantastic. Michael Vartan looks a little lost as the 2 leading ladies steal the show. I was in the mood for a good laugh upon entering the cinema and I have to admit that this certainly pushed all the right buttons. I highly recommend this!
Jane Fonda's duplicitous character in 'Monster-in-Law' mirrors a comedy so desperate to avoid any possible offense that it flees in panic from every issue it brings up but refuses to address. Her screen alter ego, Viola Fields, is a Los Angeles television interviewer of Barbara Walters stature, who goes bonkers and lands in rehab after she is unceremoniously put out to pasture by her youth-obsessed network bosses. Foremost on Viola's list of obsessions is her determination to derail the marriage-bound relationship of her beloved only son, Kevin (Michael Vartan), a handsome surgeon, to Charlotte, a k a Charlie (Jennifer Lopez), a spunky office temp and part-time caterer and dog walker whom Viola considers unworthy of her darling boy. Winking broadly every step of the way, Ms. Fonda infuses her disagreeable character with a zany, good-natured verve that makes Viola palatable even when she is behaving atrociously, which is much of the time. Although the star carries off this balancing act, you have to wonder why Ms. Fonda decided to choose for her return to the screen a comedy so one-dimensional and craven that it makes 'Meet the Parents' look avant-garde.
Jennifer Lopez and Jane Fonda have found themselves entangled in a lawsuit over their 2005 film Monster-In-Law amid allegations of copyright infringement. Sheri Gilbert of North Carolina claims the film was similar to a script she wrote in 1998 about her struggles with her mother-in-law - and she's accused producers of the Hollywood hit of stealing her work. According to the lawsuit, filed in U.S. District Court in Raleigh, Gilbert and her husband Willie are seeking a share of the near £11 Read more
