An Incredible PerformanceBy Jen Movie Addict from London, UK , 27 Sep 2004
[Highly rated reviewer]When the Media has the nagging necessity to label all its serial killers, it is refreshing to find a filmmaker who dares and more importantly cares to go beyond the crimes of Aileen Wuornos, labelled America?s first female serial killer, and show the audience what drove Aileen to kill. Monster, starring Oscar-winning Charlize Theron and written and directed by first-time feature filmmaker Patty Jenkins, is at its base a love story and an intriguing background of Aileen Wuornos ? her doomed life and her need to be loved. Using some of Aileen?s letters to a childhood friend while she was in prison and direct interview with Aileen herself, Jenkins presents us a near enough objective view of Aileen, without ever falling into sentimentality. It is a moving piece of filmmaking non-the-less. Monster proves to be a true work of passion and heart. Jenkins and Theron worked hand in hand both in a director-actor relation but also on a director-producer level (this is Theron?s first role as producer). You can feel the energy that went into making Monster. One of the rare films that deserves all its praise.

Charlize is amazingBy Cat30 (2 reviews) , 19 Dec 2012Amazing. Charlize Theron is so brilliant and you can hardly belive its her. It is horrific film based on a true story. It is so well acted and you actually cam empathise with the main characters despite the awful acts she commits.
Ugly and Depressing.By Tranced (136 reviews) from Bridlington , 09 Dec 2012The reason I watched this movie was because I like Charlize Thereon, but oh dear this is so depressing and ugly. I had to google during the movie 'Charlize Thereon Monster unrecognisable'. Then I saw that she had been so brave as to have her face made up to be so ugly and she also had to put on weight. High price to pay for a career that isn't going downhill. I can't understand why they chose her to play this when they completely mutilate her physically. Offputting and awful to watch although you can't fault her excellent acting and performance here.
Thelma and Louise meets psycho-killer-thrillerBy SallyTorquay (18 reviews) from Torquay , 24 Nov 2012Charlize Theron gives an amazing performance and is totally convincing as an unattractive, throughly f----ed up young woman who has been dealt a bum hand in life and has a warped angry attitude that poisons every aspect of her life, except her relationship to the young lesbian girl played by Christina Ricci. I was totally gripped by the film. It's not easy viewing, but you can't look away.
Absolutely Sensational 5 star filmBy uniqueness (94 reviews) from Glasgow , 02 Nov 2012This is quite possibly one of the best films ever made.
Charlize Theron gives a staggering performance and so life-like, of serial Killer Aileen Wournos.
For anyone that doesn't know of Wournos or her story, just watch this film and you will be blown away!
Shocking, Vivid, Cold reality of life and how some people really are dealt bad luck continuesly in life.
So, if you have choice of films to watch tonight, leave the other one to another day, watch this because at the end you will literally be gob smacked!
Depressing to watchBy a customer , 21 Jun 2012I found this film just too depressing. I know it's based on a true crime but it really makes you feel that life is worthless by the end of it.
