They scare because they care
By a customer from Notting Hill , 20 Sep 2003[Highly rated reviewer]
Yes, it?s a kid?s movie ? but this is animation at its best. Monsters, Inc. is the type of film Disney used to make. Sure the computer animation is new, but the old Disney formula is the same here. Great animation, lovable characters, a simple plot, and slapstick humour are what made Disney films like 101 Dalmatians, Dumbo, Pinocchio, etc. all great children?s films. Monsters, Inc, however has done what these films could not do by extending its audience beyond your standard 3-11 year old.
The creators of Monsters, Inc. have paid enormous attention to detail in their work such that jokes like an ooze-generating monster mopping a floor, or an abominable snowman serving yellow snow cones (No, its lemon!) will entertain adults who normally don't find animation very interesting.
It is fortunate that Disney (Pixar in this case) has chosen to veer away from the formula that made its animated cartoons go 'over the top' in the past. Yes, I mean the singing! The music chosen for this film goes over well and does not steal the show from the principal actors (Billy Crystal and John Goodman) and features a duet from the two at the closing credits (Oscar nominated song 'If I didn't have you'.
Crystal works well as the scare 'coach' Mike Wazowski, Disney could have chosen 'over the top comedian Robin Williams for this part but wisely chose Billy Crystal whose comedy was light hearted and fun. Goodman gave a stellar performance as scare legend 'Sully?, the scarer who falls in love with a little child.
While there were some plot holes (how did Mike get back from the snow world?), I thoroughly enjoyed this film and recommend it to anyone, especially to those with children.- Was this review helpful to you?

(254)It's a monster smash
By blackpolekev (201 reviews) from blackpole , 07 Feb 2013This 2001 film is one of Pixar's best animations and has just been re-released to cinemas in digital 3D. They had the good sense to brighten the picture to offset the 30% light reduction caused by the 3D glasses so that it never looks too dark, which is what happens with most 3D films. It cleverly makes monster Sully (brilliantly voiced by John Goodman) and his coach Mike (Billy Crystal, also very good) have hearts of gold and be quite charming. This is great entertainment for adults as well as kids. Before the main feature there is also a short 2000 film animation called For The Birds.
Format: Cinema - Digital 3D both films; Dolby Digital sound (Monsters, Inc.); no sound stated for For The Birds.- Was this review helpful to you?

What's in my closet daddy?!
By Griffman (7 reviews) , 06 Dec 2012What can i say about Monsters Inc? Well, firstly i would like to say my children loved it! My son wanted it on first thing in the morning, straight home from school, and last thing at night. Myself got bored of it after the 20th time watching it, but when i first watched it, thought it was very well made, great adult content that kids wouldnt get, but nothing rude, and fantastic for children. 5 stars!- Was this review helpful to you?

great story
By denis007 (133 reviews) , 04 May 2012Disney made a great movie with Monster, Inc. I truly enjoyed watching this one with my daughter. She laughed out loud throughout the movie. It is, in my opinion, one of the best 'modern' Disney made. My heart goes to the early Disney made by hand, which do not have all these special effects and suppress the greatness of the cartoon. Hilarious, funny, great humor, all that is required to spend an hour and a half with your family! To be highly recommended!- Was this review helpful to you?
