Chronicling the impact of momentous events on an enduring cross-cultural marriage, this is not only a remarkable tale of courage and commitment, but also a very personal history of India since the 1947 Partition. Exiled director Safina Uberoi's interviews with her Sikh father Jit and expat Australian mother Patricia provide the backbone of the film, which uses family artifacts and a range of audio-visual resources to assess the national and domestic ramifications of the Indo-Pakistani war of 1966, the civil unrest sparked by the 1984 raid on the Golden Temple at Amritsar and the assassination of Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. The result is a warm, thoughtful and revealing experience.

    Tragic!

This is the first Indian film that I've ever seen, and although I enjoyed it, it is really quite dated. The story is the epic saga of one woman's life and is in turns tragic, tragic, tragic a little comic and then tragic again. It is lightened by the numerous songs that are a feature of all Bollywood cinema. Unfortunately the words of the songs were not subtitled so I had no idea what was going on during those scenes. It didn't seem to affect my enjoyment of the film though.

    Movie on True Rural India

This movie is more close to the struggles India went though than depicted in the BBC documentaries.

Its a very good movie with STRONG performances and a MUST SEE.
