Takes a bit of getting into this film but the feel changes totally after the first 20 minutes so stick with it! A truly eerie little film based (albeit loosely) on true events, but still enough to get you thinking and make the little hairs on the back of your neck stand up. I did however find the pace a little slow .

The hour documentary on the DVD is very informative and ideal for those left curious about the real myth of the Mothman.

I'm not a big Richard Gere fan but he acts his socks off in this one - well worth a go!

films a little slow, but its still creepy and weird.

Never read the book by Stephen King but might just do so after watching this film.

  • Intriguing and Compelling

Interesting! As a person who has, in the past, loosely researched the records of the actual events upon which this film is based, the creator(s) didn't do too badly in that they have taken something somewhat mysterious and no doubt sensitive to those involved and made their own work/creation/story; without trashing the real life accounts. It is both intriguing, compelling. A very good watch.

I loved this film, creepy without being too scary, Richard Gere is excellent in this film based on true supernatural events that occured in a small american town.

This is a good and watchable film. I feel, though, that the myth of the Mothman alone is much more interesting and 'bone-chilling' than the movie. Just hearing the sightings and left to imagine them sends a chill down one's spine more so than the voice that calls and speaks to Gere or the red eyes that are visually created.

The cast of this movie all act very well, visually it is very atmospheric and the dialogue is good. The materialisation of a named (he named himself as Indrid Cold to Gere's character) Mothman seems to take away something from the myth. However, it is refreshing (in this day and age perhaps) that it remained fairly subtle in that the director did not resort to blood, gore and special effects (over the top cgi or ridiculous make up) to tell a scary story.

On the whole, this was an intriguing movie which was well acted and well paced and that will leave you wanting to read and research about the myth yourself.

  • Classic Slow Burner - Brilliant

A brilliant slow burning thriller and truly one of a kind. I've seen this film a few times now and am never dissapointed.

Gear (who i usually dislike) and Linney are both in great form as the two leads trying to unwrap the mystery of the mothman. the leads as well as the audience not knowing if the story is true or not it always keeps you on your toes and though it is a slow burner it really packs the punches when its needed. Understated but genuinely creepy with a few jumps thrown in, Mothman has succeeded where most other 'myth' and folklore based movies have failed.

If you want action or gore then this is not for you and those expecting a blair witch type scenario will not get it but if you want a smart and original thriller will not be disappointed.
