An evening of Mozartian magic...a staging that cries out to be revisited
Wonderful singing and effective staging distingishes this Glyndebourne version of Cosi. It has always been a 'difficult' piece to bring off successfully, given the inherent unlikeliness of the plot and the politically incorrect theme. Nevertheless, the two female leads, particularly Miah Persson, sing beautifully, and all the cast are well matched. Thank heaven that the producer and director are equally sympathetic - a simple staging beautifully done rather than the ridiculous inventions that some opera directors force upon their hapless performers and audience. This is the best modern production for at least ten years (only Magdalena Kozena at the Met was remotely comparable), and no-one who loves Mozart should hesitate. Fabulous!
