This film is an excellent deconstruction of a sterotypical family, and a perfect example of things aren't always what they appear to be. Led astutely by Joanne Woodward's perfectly tuned performance as Mrs Bridge, this film was very moving and touching and possibly 1 of the most underrated Merchant/Ivory movies going.
I rate it highly, not only for Woodward's performance - but as an overly product from the Masters of period films.
