Bean tops the chart before Easter weekend

Comedy sequel Mr Bean's Holiday has reached the top of the UK box office chart in its first week of release, totalling over £6.4 million in ticket sales, according to ACNielsen. But while the rubber-faced funnyman, played by Rowan Atkinson, may enjoy the top spot, he may have to contend with two releases scheduled for this weekend which could see Easter holidaymakers flocking to cinemas. Family comedy Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End stayed firmly anchored to the top spot of the UK box office chart this week, ahead of Wedding Gaze at number two. Spider-Man 3 was finally knocked out of his web this week after Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End debuted at the UK box office number one slot. Eclipsing the film by more than £12 million in takings, Pirates pushed Spidey into second as the summer blockbuster season gets into full swing. Bridge to Terabithia beaten to number one

Fantasy story Bridge to Terabithia is sitting at number two in the UK box office chart this week after Spider-Man 3 earned ten times as much in ticket sales. ACNielsen's top ten puts the spider-bitten hero at the top, taking a total of £11,827,013 in its opening weekend, while Bridge to Terabithia - the only other new entry - took £1,045,444. This week's UK box office chart sees family motorbike comedy Wild Hogs stay at number one for the second week, managing to keep crime thriller Fracture in second place.
