Comedian Adam Sandler apparently made this comedy for his late grandmother, because his father told him she “would've liked it”. Indeed, what better way to honour granny than to remake her favourite film, Frank Capra's Mr Deeds Goes to Town? Well, the moral of this short story is that good intentions don't make good films. Sandler takes on the Gary Cooper role of the country bumpkin who inherits a business empire, goes to the big city and becomes the unwitting target of a reporter (Winona Ryder) trying to get the goods on him, as well as a scheming executive (Peter Gallagher) who's just trying to get the goods. Whereas Cooper was an everyman, Sandler is just the man in the street, and director Steven Brill is no Capra — he has replaced wit with smut and sentiment with saccharin. Even the most indulgent grandmother would have to pass on this travesty of an American classic.

    Hot & Cold

Being a huge Sandler fan I look forward to the release of all Happy Maddison films. However I am sorry to report this film left me feeling quite disapointed.

The film only really scrapes through on the strengh of the Cameos, John Tuturro is brilliant as always as is the ever reliable Steve Buscemi.

Winnona fails to steel the show(sorry for the pun), only offering a Medocre performance and sandler is his usual odd ball self in a role he has some what over played.

The Original Mr Deeds goes to town will go down as an all time classic, unfortunately Mr Deeds seems destined to be a 9pm Channel 5 movie for the future.

Only Glad Sandlers 50 first dates put him back on track.

    Typical Adam Sandler

If you've seen previous pics like The Waterboy and Happy Gilmore then you know what to expect as this film is in the same vein. It has the laughs, the romance and requisite moments of stupidity and is worth a watch if you are a fan of his films.

This is truly one of the worst films that I have ever seen. Do not waste 90 minutes of your life on this rubbish. Appalling.

Read mixed reviews of this film, but thought we'd give it a go as Adam Sandler can be pretty funny - WRONG! Switched it off after about 20 minutes - boring and unfunny. Can't tell you much more than that cos we didn't see much more than that!

Typical Adam Sandler throwaway comedy. Well written and with an unexpected twist at the end, this film has enough moments to entertain. However, like with most films of this nature, you are left a little dissappointed. The idea is there, the cast seem more than capable but the gags are often too thin and too far apart. Still worth a watch.

    Good film!

Very unexpected! I'm not the biggest fan of adam sandler but this was a nice film-nice story-kinda cheesey and predictable in places-but also featuring some very comical and unique-kinda strange moments (Buscemi anyone?). The whole of my family were able to enjoy this (esp the teen brother and my dad!)

As winona fan-I liked her character although she was a bit stereotypical as newspaper employee.

    Overall it was good

A must for Adam Sandler fans!

I was looking forward to seeing this movie and was not disappointed.

A brilliant cast and alot of familiar faces from previous sandler films.

John Turturro is brilliant as the foot obsessed butler.

Winona is Brilliant, and it's great to see her back on screen.

All in all a really good remake.

    Enjoyed every mintute

An extremely under-rated film! I loved every minute of it, fantastic story, great actors, especially adam sandler. This films leaves you with a great feeling and I can't recommend it enough! Rent it, you won't regret it!

    Indeed Quite Good

It's nothing original, the story of a 'normal' guy inheriting a fortune has been done to death. And Sandler plays the same sort of character again, only this time with a less confrontational exterior. Despite this, the film is quite funny. Sure, some of the jokes are painfully obvious, and others just aren't funny, but a lot of the goings-on are standably stupid enough to enjoy. The best part of the film for me was John Turturro's character, who proves again why he's one of my favourite actors. Overall, the film is a bit stupid, but good if that's what you're looking for.

    Sandler Savvy

Adam Sandler does what he does best in this movie - makes you laugh with his mad hat antics reminicent of his other masterpieces Big Daddy and Happy Gilmore!

Supported by an excellent cast, each character is well developed and taken to their funniest limits - just watch Steve Buscemi for evidence of this.

If you are looking for a naturally funny film, with action, drama and romance then this is the film for you......

All I can say is Sneaky Sneaky!

One of the worst films I have ever seen. The jokes are poor at best, and the film really made me cringe. I do like Adam Sandler, but this film is well below par. If you hope to still like him, best not watch this then.t

I ended up turning off about half an hour in, when I realised that Scary movie 3 was funnier.
