You might expect this fantasy to live up to its wistful plotline, as Michael Caine's bartender dispenses what-if potions to a baseball fan (James Belushi) who regrets the day all those years ago when he missed a home run. Yet as Belushi lives his life again — more successful but wishing he was still married to Linda Hamilton rather than his new wife (Rene Russo) — it's hard not to see him as a tedious slob who can't make up his mind. With a plot that's a plod leading to no satisfactory conclusion, you keep hoping the film (along with Belushi's luck) is going to get better. But it doesn't.
