In a squirm-inducing sop to political correctness, a title at the end of this live-action feature, based on the original cartoon about the lugubrious, myopic hero, points out that short-sighted people are not being ridiculed — which, of course, they are. As Magoo, Leslie Nielsen shows his limitations as a comedian: he barely raises a smile, let alone a laugh. The plot, about the chase for a stolen jewel, is pathetic. Did no one predict that this would be a turkey? That's real short-sightedness.
Tedious live-action version of the briefly witty UPA cartoons of the early 50s, with some misfiring slapstick and ponderous jokes.
If you are thinking of watching this movie please do not hold any false hopes. This is a children's film for children.
The plot line is weak in adult terms and some of the humour purile, however with the summer holidays approaching those with a young family may find this movie a godsend on wet days.
The actors perform the slapstick humour well and whilst nowhere near academy award standard it did keep our seven year old entertained.
War and Peace it is not - Peace and quiet it may well provide!
this film is a big hit for me i loved watching it a lot
Unfortunately this film fails in my mind to live up to the cartoons. It's not the director's fault it's just the cartoons to me are not suitable to make in to a film. As they a very short episodes with 'visual' gags about our poor sighted gentleman.
This is also the other failing with the film as Leslie Neilson seems to forget quite regularily the character he is playing is supposed to be a bumbling poor sighted fellow.
Also I can't see how this would appeal to anyone as the humour is not for adults, and children would have never have seen the cartoons to understand what the film is about.
I hired this film for my children to watch over the holidays, they were alittle apprehensive as they had not heard about the film before from friends. They all found it very enjoyable and found some scences very funny. It is definately a childs film so not for the older child in there teens maybe, as they may find this alittle slow. Rated by my children 10 years and under: 4 stars****
Good fun comedy, the older ones are the best.

very slow, funny in parts, no belly laugh. Acting good though.
what a load of rubbish
I watched this under duress by my partner. However I have to say that it was a very good show. It is stupid but a very funny way of passing an hour and a half.
I was dubious about this film for many reasons but I was pleasantly suprised. It had me crying with laughter and is well worth a look.
Well I was expecting something a little more from this film,Leslie Neilsen I thought was a great choice for Magoo but it just didn't transfer to film as well as I'd hoped for,Magoos dog was the star on the occassions when I smiled, definatley one for the kids but not anyone older than 9,ideal film to fall asleep to on a Sunday afternoon.
Adults may not enjoy this movie so much as kids will.
