A wonderous film....
By PaulaWestwood (397 reviews) from Ashton-Under-Lyne , 03 Dec 2007[Highly rated reviewer]
A piece of true cinemagic for young and old alike in the vein of Lemony Snicketts and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, this is an amazing blend of mischief, fun and entertainment that just had the whole cinema riveted. Dustin Hoffmann was wonderous as the centuries old eccentric toy shop owner, aided by a lacking in confidence assistant (Natalie Portman), a straight laced 'by the book' accountant and a boy (Zach Mills - again excellent) who finds it difficult to make friends, partly because of his particular liking for hats. It just has all the mad fun and escapist magic that childrens (and olders) films should have and some sadly miss. For us this will be one of those played again films that when it comes to DVD we will end up wearing out the disc far before we ever wear out our enjoyment of the film, yep trust me it is that good. Definately recommended.- Was this review helpful to you?

(269)The perfect toy shop
By a customer from Dorchester , 19 Oct 2011The kids loved the story, pure fantasy but with a nice story line. I wish there really were toy shops like this one.- Was this review helpful to you?

OK Film Better For The Kids!
By OptixAz (179 reviews) from Oxford , 09 Jul 2011Unfortunately this is not as good as the trailer makes out it to be. Its a film more suited for the younger audiences not really for the adults. Dustin Hoffman who is normally great in his roles did not really shine in this, also he puts on an annoying accent. Its an OK film but not something i would really wanna watch again.- Was this review helpful to you?

Magical and mystical
By a customer from Peterborough , 01 Apr 2011A beautiful story for the imaginative mind. Mr Magorium/Dustin Hoffman is so endearing and you end up wishing he was your grandad! Natalie Portman is as great as ever in it playing a young, quirky character. I highly recommend!- Was this review helpful to you?
