Popper's Penguins Provide Pleasure
By RedDex (18 reviews) from Hampshire , 24 Jul 2011[Highly rated reviewer]
Mr Poppers Penguins is the sort of film we dont really see that much anymore - good, old-fashioned, wholesome family fun. Theres something in here for all ages, and someone to identify with for every member of the family. It is a family film though, this is not a film youre going to go and see with a group of friends, its the sort of film youre going to take your kids and your nieces and nephews to, and theyll like it. Theyll like it because of the cute penguins and the realistic CGI and youll like it not just because it keeps them quiet but also because its harmless fun.
A lot of the chuckles come from the penguins antics, and there are certainly plenty of aahhhhh moments, but there are also some witty moments too, clearly meant for the adults in attendance.
A lot of the story is clichéd - the high-flying executive who doesnt have time for his family, who eventually comes to realise the true value of life - isnt anything new, it just happens to be via a colony (crèche, huddle and parcel are also acceptable collective nouns) of penguins in this instance!

Fantastic - very funny in parts
By a customer , 17 Aug 2012This was fantastic - Jim Carrey can be an overload but the stars of this were the penguins - animatronic they may have been in certain scenes but the real ones lent an absolutely brilliant slant to the film.
This was not forced humour like a lot of Carrey's films and the scene at the Guggenheim Museum had me laughing uncontrollably.
Very highly recommended and I bet you won't be disappointed!- Was this review helpful to you?
