Quality drama from the Big YinBy Bufo38 from Kent , 12 Feb 2005
[Highly rated reviewer]I'm neither a Connolly fan, nor a period drama fan by any means, but he can definitely act, and this is quite a special story!
An interesting and absorbing drama, well acted by all, that makes you want to ask the unanswerable question; "was any of it true?"
A period piece ,well worth a watch for the acting, the landscapes and the plot.

Mrs BrownBy NICKJOJO (256 reviews) from Surrey , 21 Dec 2011Still a good film with excellent performances by Judi Dench and Billy Connolly. Whilst allowing for poetic license it still appears very lifelike and is a touching story.
Great recommendationBy Gray2 (222 reviews) from London, England , 23 Aug 2011I'm so pleased someone recommended this (she said it was one of her all-time favourite films so that's quite a strong recommendation!). Judi Dench and Geoffrey Palmer, both of As Time Goes By, are reunited in very different roles: as Queen Victoria and Henry Ponsonby. The latter is very unhappy when Mr Brown (played by Billy Connolly - again an unusual role for him) comes to cheer the Queen up after the death of her consort; and is even more unhappy when he seems to be succeeding! This is a great tale, and evidently a true story though it was the first I'd heard of it. Dench, Palmer and Connolly are all in great form. Some good humour as well as more poignant moments. Some great photography too - and I especially enjoyed the Osborne House scenes having been there recently.
mrs brownBy a customer from scotland , 27 Jan 2011This is so fantastic you can watch this over and over again. billy connoly is fab in this and well what can you say about judi dench! what a great actress i love watching her play all these great parts and how she brings them to life.
Love it!By Laurajf84 (10 reviews) from Ellesmere Port , 10 Oct 2009Like some of the other films I have rented off Lovefilm I love the ones with a bit of history attached!
I love the relationship that develops between Queen Victoria (Judi Dench) and Mr Brown(Billy Connolly) during the film and it has some genuine touching moments.
Although, as far as I know, Billy Connolly hasn't been in any other films of this type (history and serious roles) I felt he did extremely well. I felt that I warm to his determind, caring and brave character. As for Judi Dench well she was great as Queen Victora and throughout the film her character soften.
Watch this film if again your like me and like to watch a history film whether it is accurate or not and just enjoy the story/plot, costume and locations. It's most certainly worth it!!
Delightful.By a customer from Bristol , 07 Apr 2009Exceptionally acted by Judi Dench and Billy Connolly. It would be lovely to know how much of this story is true.
