This is a gentle film of a acclaimed book. The cast is superb and the acting is all that we might expect. However, adapting a book in which the main attraction is the quality of the writing, into a film where there is no scope to reveal this quality, is a risky excercise. In this case, as with The Great Gatsby, it hasn't worked.

Each part is excellent, but the sum of the parts is less than I expected. In all, a disappointing film and not one that I can recommend.
