Daytime chat queen Ricki Lake takes on the Barbara Stanwyck role in this creditable remake of that three-hanky woman's picture, No Man of Her Own. As the pregnant runaway who is mistaken for the daughter-in-law of a wealthy Boston matriarch after being rescued from a train crash, Lake displays a gratifying candour that almost excuses her desperate deception. Moreover, in romancing suspicious twin Brendan Fraser and consoling the grieving Shirley MacLaine, she holds her own against her more experienced co-stars. Equally noteworthy are the nicely contrasting performances of Miguel Sandoval as the loyal Cuban chauffeur and Loren Dean as Lake's worthless boyfriend.

Shirley Maclaine is fabulous! If you enjoyed films like Guarding Tess and Sabrina then you will enjoy this one too. It is cheesy but definitely one for all you romantic comedy lovers. A good one to watch with Mum or Grandma.
I'm going to be honest. I only rented this because of my embarrassingly large crush on Brendan Fraser. I ended up loving this film though. Yes. It is a bit out of date and yes, it is a bit predictable at times. But these things don't matter. It's a heart warming tale which will delight all romantics. If you've seen and loved Sabrina (either version) then this film is definitely for you! Seriously. Add it to your list!
