    [Highly rated reviewer]

This is another fantastic reworking of the origins of Sherlock Holmes and is probably the best of the lot.

With a tense and original storyline, it flows better than the versions of murder rooms which take their plots straight from Conan Doyle’s stories but again has little clues to remind watchers of the character that Conan Doyle created.

Another nice touch to this one is a hint of the idea of spiritualism that Conan Doyle became obsessed with later in life, although not for the same reasons given in this.

All in all anyone who is either a fan of Sherlock Holmes, or Ian Richardson (who is fantastic throughout this series) should watch this. You won't be disappointed.

The 'Murder Room' series was very entertaining when I first saw it and remains so on second viewing. If you need a good quality drama for a night-in, this series is for you.

  • Another Excellent Episode

Another excellent episode in this marvellous series - alas too short. Ian Richardson and Charles Edwards are brilliant and the stories and atmosphere in all the episodes are first class. As I say in other reviews of the series, both the cases and the personality of the two main characters seem to me so much more interesting and real than in the actual Sherlock Holmes stories. A big part of that is the excellence of the writing, helped by the two principal actors' ability to create depth of character. A highly commended series. If only they had made more!

The 'Murder Rooms' are a must see for any fan of Sherlock Holmes or of period mystery drama. Based on Conan Doyle's inspiration for the great detective, these are clever crimes solved by masterly deduction. There is also an element of light humour that blends well.
