Murder

Director Alfred Hitchcock
Genres Drama
Run time 100 mins Certificate 12

15th October 2005

This is a fairly ordinary whodunnit, but from the opening five minutes you can tell that its director is going to become something special. The film is full of visual tricks with lighting and camera angles, and whizzes with inventiveness throughout. It's a film made by a young man who is delighted with the toys at his disposal and is determined to play with them, and the energy is infectious. The plot creaks and the social attitudes are pretty offensive to modern sensibilities, but it's well worth a look for a glimpse of the young Hitchcock in action.
