    Great, lighthearted fun!

We loved this! My wife's choice and I knew what to expect - but admit this was better than I was anticipating.

I know it may not be everybody's cup of tea, but if you love the rom-com genre and a laugh at a film which can laugh at itself and have a giggle at the 80's music scene then you'll love it too.

Hugh Grant was pretty much cast in character as you'd expect (which isn't a bad thing!), and with Drew Barrymore in support it worked brilliantly. The rest of the supporting cast were very good and there are enough one liners in there to keep the giggles going throughout.

Obviously the romantic twist is there but even then its so tongue in cheek its not too OTT for the blokes! The story's pretty good and it follows all the tried and tested rom-com principles.

Great couples film (or a group of lasses I suppose, not butch enough for us guys alone!) - and if you were a teenager in the 80s and into Wham, Spandau Ballet and the like you'll crease yourself laughing - we did! Enjoy.

    Oh please ...

... save me from drippy dross like this. Don't get me wrong - I admire Hugh Grant ('About a Boy' his best moment) - but this whole artifice is so flimsy and fly-by-night that I wandered off into the land of nod for a whole half hour and still didn't miss any of the paltry and turgid story line. The characters are paper thin and the ending more predictable than a Cliff Richard Christmas number one, but if you want to make up to your girlfriend for some previous misdemeanour then it might just pay dividends to sit through this tripe. ps. my wife has just told me that I'm a just a deprived misogynist MCP so you better take that into account

    Barrymore: 'No more romantic comedies'

    • 09 Apr 2009

Hollywood star Drew Barrymore has ruled out starring in any more romantic comedies - because the genre has defined her career for the last decade. The actress admits she has been drawn to lighthearted projects like 2004's 50 First Dates and 2007's Music and Lyrics in the past; but now she's 34, she's looking to branch out and take on more daring movie roles. She's already got one edgy drama under her belt - dark TV movie Grey Gardens - but she's keen to expand her resume. She tells Elle... Read more
