This film begins with a parody; a hammy slasher film within the film by an inept director which reduces cast and crew to laughter. If this was to contrast with the 'real' film it was an unwise decision. What follows is a thriller as imagined by the Children's Film Foundation, although with slightly lower production values, and if they allowed chimpanzees to write their scripts. The maguffin around which the action revolves is a snuff movie. In fact such a movie would look better on an actor's CV than Mute Witness. Alec Guiness made an appearance in the movie. He died shortly after. Of mortification, perhaps.

The only other film I can associate with director Anthony Waller is the rather average 'An American Werewolf in Paris', so I was completely surprised by this little gem of a movie.

That Sir Alec Guiness takes a very minor role in it must speak for it's worthiness, but the real star must be Marina Sudina.I'll keep my eye out for her in future. Fay Ripley also adds staunch support.

It has everything, suspence, sex, violence and comedy, given to the audience in an ungratuitous way within a very good story line. This film will have you gripping the edge of your seat all through. The only thing that prevented me from awarding five stars was that the comedy was a bit hammy and didn't quite fit.

Best film from this Director. His latest efforts have been rather dismall (An American Werewolf in Paris anyone ????). This is a rollercoaster ride of terror and shocks. It stars an unknown at the time Faye Ripley (Cold Feet) and the man himself Sir Alec Guiness, how they got him in it i have no idea! The premise is simple; mute girl witnesses possible murder of woman in a snuff movie, on the set of the cheap B movie she is working on as a make-up girl. Cue lots of running, hiding, blood-letting and uncomfortable laughs. This has taken along time to arrive on DVD so i urge any mildly interested readers out there to take a chance and add it to their list.

I thought this might be a diamond in the rough, but I was deeply disappointed. Showed great potential up to 'the' scene, but lost it's way. Let down by an over-long chase and an awful bathroom special effect. Some twists, but ultimately a waste of time.
