Nice movie, like a slow song in a shady café,
By crockery (137 reviews) from Belfast , 06 Apr 2008[Highly rated reviewer]
The film is all about mood. If you are not in it, you will not like the movie. My recommendation is to watch it at night, in bed, with no worries on your mind or things to do. It is not something really great, but it soothes the soul like one of those old road books.
The story itself is more of a three parter, each section detailing a mindset and the situations that define it. You see the hopeless romantic, the one person who let the other inside instead of just sticking to the outside, and for whom losing the other is worst than death; then there is the rebellious daughter that loves and hates her father until it's to late to do anything either way; and of course, the story of Nora Joneses and Jude Law's characters.
Bottom line: lay comfy in your bed and listen to the slow rhythms of the music while digesting the human nature presented in the film. In the end it is worth watching.- Was this review helpful to you?

(89)I gave it a rasberrry
By Bobsview (554 reviews) from Gloucestershire , 29 Mar 2013Dont watch this! Its a lazy slow meander through a series of largely unconnected stories with a very tenuous thread and a low key predictable anti climax ending. Mediocre.- Was this review helpful to you?

Beautiful film, maybe not for everyone
By a customer , 29 Sep 2012Interesting to see Kwong Kai Wei directing a film set in America. A little more conventional than his other films, but still preserves his unique style. The ending is maybe a little too sweet for my taste, but more uplifting than expected. Certainly not for people who like faced passed action in films, but great as an elegant and sensitive storey. As Kwong Kai Wei's films go, I still prefer his Chinese films, but this I'm glad I watched this- Was this review helpful to you?

more true to life, leaves you feeling all warm and cosy
By crosseyes (16 reviews) , 26 Jun 2012Adore this film. Beautifully paced, interesting diversions and threads, well rounded-up, and nicely understated. Plus Jude Law is divine, and Norah Jones does a lovely job in that role (though I'd rather be the one in there eating that blueberry pie of his!)- Was this review helpful to you?

Unengaging and unbelievable
By a customer , 09 May 2012One of the most disappointing films I have seen recently... The acting is particularly awful, with Norah Jones' face registering no emotion or feeling whatsoever and the rest hardly more convincing. I loved some of Wong Kar-Wai's other movies, whose style and use of music impressed me, but this collection of stereotypes did not. What a shame!- Was this review helpful to you?

good for reflecting
By a customer , 15 Apr 2012I enjoyed this actually.
I think t's quite thought provoking by looking at trust and how we view our relationships with other people.
Relaxing to watch, slow, dreamy, nice when you just want to chill out.- Was this review helpful to you?
