I don't know if it was Daniel Radcliffe's acting or David Haig's but somehow both performances, I found, were unemotionally involving, and that was a great shame. The story appeared to have been written in such a hurry, even though David Haig undoubtedly researched the characters over many years. For me there was a feeling of emptyness about the whole thing. And I would have liked to have seen at the end of the film, just before the credits go up, a few words about what exactly happened to the Kiplings after the war had ended and what efforts, if any, KIpling made to atone for his terrible mistake. Unusual these days for a writer whose story is based on fact not to enlighten the audience with a postscript.
